Microsoft Bing Cashback no more

The Cashback feature was launched by Microsoft in 2008 giving best deals to its Bing users. Whenever a user searches for deals on Bing, they could see a gold icon on the search results which referred to Microsoft partners and advertisers. If the user buys from any of those partners then they could redeem cashback ranging between 2$ to 10% on their purchase. The idea was good but Microsoft did not find many takers of the service. So the company has decided to shut down the service completely.

Microsoft said the Cashback feature will be available only until July 2010 while the customers can redeem their cashbacks till July 2011.

According to the post on Bing blog, the Microsoft Senior Vice President, Online Audience Business Group, Yusuf Mehdi said

In lots of ways, this was a great feature – we had over a thousand merchant partners delivering great offers to customers and seeing great ROI on their campaigns, and we were taking some of the advertising revenue and giving it back to customers. But after a couple of years of trying, we did not see the broad adoption that we had hoped for.

Mehdi said Microsoft took a learning from this effort and will come out with some new programs for its users and advertisers designed to provide amazing shopping experiences for consumers and great opportunities for advertisers.
