Facebook tops Google’s Most Visited Websites

Google recently released a list of top 1000 most visited websites and guess what, Facebook has topped the list with 550 million people visiting the site in a month. Despite all the flak which Facebook received recently for its privacy concerns it still rules the social networking market. The total number of page views inside Facebook is even more astonishing at a whopping 570 billion. The other social networking websites close to Facebook like Twitter and MySpace were way behind at 18 and 26 respectively.

Facebook currently has over 400 million users worldwide and is finding it difficult to maintain its users trust on their profile’s privacy. They were heavily criticized of selling user’s data to its advertisers on the network. They recently came out with an updated privacy settings page by giving users more control over what outside applications or websites can view in their profile apart from a single control panel for content which can significantly reduce the amount of information that is always visible to everyone.

Google’s list will be updated monthly and does not include adult websites, ad networks, domains which has secure content or websites which don’t load properly and also some of Google’s own websites. The list only considers websites where content is openly available where its bots can access the content. The list was measured by Ad Planner tool by Google acquired Double Click and the list aims to help its advertisers in selecting the top sites for advertising in both Ad Planner and Adwords. Google also gave flexibility to its advertisers whether they want to list their ads on these 1000 websites or other websites apart from these 1000 websites.
